Some girls may start menstruating at 10-12, but others may not get their first period until they are 15-16 years old. Don't worry about it. You'll get your period when your time comes.

There really isn't any way for anyone to tell you when you'll start. You're maturing, you said you've started to develop, so that is a sign, but will you start soon? No one knows, not even your doctor.

It's one of the joys of being female. We can't pinpoint this, we can't determine when it's going to happen, and often it is a surprise.

You know that it will happen sooner or later, so the best thing you can do is be prepared. Make sure that you talk to your mom, get some sanitary products. If you carry a purse then put some of these products in your purse so you aren't caught unprepared. Most times the first period starts off very light, so you shouldn't have an embarrassing moment. You could even start wearing a panty liner if you're concerned that it will start and people will notice. This will help with the discharge as well.

We all go through this. I know it's hard, and it sucks, but we've all been there, done it, and we all survived. You will too.

I am an advice columnist for my local paper and have been for a few years now. I specialize in relationship advice and sex therapy.

I find it very rewarding to work with people to help them find solutions to their problems. There is never a problem that cannot be solved with communication, guidance, and compassion.

I hope to make a difference in this online community and welcome any questions you may have.

Please keep in mind that my posts are based on what you tell me and based on my opinion.
